Social Networking Update

June 13, 2013 by Sheila | A B & Me 1 Comment

It’s one of those days that I just need to say something. Not really important but currently relevant.

About 3 years ago, I wrote about my social networking adventures. Reading my post again made me realize how fast social media goes. You see, most of the networking sites that I mentioned before are either no longer existing or they have exponentially declined in usage (which eventually will lead to closing down)

Just last month, Multiply announced that they are closing down and has ceased business operations by end of May. They have just transitioned from a social networking site to a online marketplace platform … unfortunately, they still did not fare well.

I have stopped using plurk.com, Yahoo360 is now known as Yahoo Profiles (which I have not activated) and the rest has been deleted.

I do spend a lot of time in Facebook (both my personal account and pages) and I have found the joys of using Twitter. (Hey, it was through Twitter that I won tickets to ComicCon and Bruno Mars Concert!) Unfortunately, when one social networking door closes, another one opens. So here I am with accounts in Pinterest, Instagram, and GetGlue (really cool site if you’re a TV/Movie buff).

I also have tons of apps for photo editing and fitness counters which links to most social networking sites!

We are so connected and everything is fast paced nowadays! You want to share your current look? Go upload a photo! Missing your family? Use Skype (or Viber, or Tango!) Gone were the days of waiting for months before receiving news because you have to wait for the pigeon (or owl in the case of the Wizarding World).

At a recent Time Management Seminar I attended, a speaker said [not verbatim]: “with everything around us so fast paced, we have become impatient (so true!).  In reality, we did not save time … we just managed to rush ourselves.” (Good point!!)

What are your thoughts on this? (I’m asking you now because I don’t know how to end this post. =P )

Hey there! I’m a mom of two who loves to crochet. Balancing work and motherhood is crazy, but I handle it with love and humor. With my eldest entering her tween years, the chaos just got a whole lot more interesting!

I’m fueled by coffee and dream of working from home. When I need to chill, I turn to my trusty essential oils. They’re my secret weapon for staying sane in the madness.

Join me for mom life, crochet, and my journey to work from home and retire before life passes me by.

For most web designers like me, I commonly use facebook, twitter, linkedin, pinterest, google plus, meetup and tagged. I actually benefited from there and gained money from my freelance jobs. This social media really works for me. I even got the chance to meet new people with the same interest, and I truly feels nice to have someone to talk to especially now that I have built good connections and businesses with them.

Hello!

Hey there!
We’re a Filipino family of four figuring things out in California after living in Dubai for years. This space is part blog, part memory box—where we share life lately, parenting wins and fails, travels, and everything in between.

Sometimes it’s deep, sometimes it’s funny, but it’s always honest. Thanks for hanging out with us!

Found this gem while sorting through my phone. Thi Found this gem while sorting through my phone. This was taken a couple of years ago, during the pandemic. I always thought it was funny… but when I showed it to Adam again, he finally told me who he was talking to. 😂

It moved me in a different way this time. Because honestly? We do this a lot. We call on God, and when He answers… we put Him on hold.

But Scripture reminds us:
“Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.” — Jeremiah 29:12

If we call, He answers. The question is—are we ready to listen? And when He calls us, are we willing to pick up?

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me.’” — Isaiah 6:8

Yes, God. Here I am.
