Long Holiday – Eid in Dubai 2013

October 16, 2013 by Sheila | A B & Me 2 Comments

A few weeks before the start of Eid, I attempted to find a cheap family getaway package. Something out of town. Rates have skyrocketed and “cheap deals” are not accepted, I decided to look for something nearby. I was still trying to get a hotel room, even if its just within Dubai. Even if its in the middle of the city. Even if its a three star hotel. When I realized that I am doing “mission impossible”, I quit. I mean, even cheap hotels were not cheap! Whatever.

The reason why I wanted to have a “plan” this time is because we busted our budget the last Eid holidays. We did not plan therefore we ended up going to the mall everyday! Mall = Fast Food (lots!!) = $$$. Plus, hotel beds are so comfortable! Can’t I just have a short mommy break and stay on a bed like this again?

Anyhoo, I guess we will just have to plan our getaway some other time. When prices are normal. Or at least budget friendly. (Yes, I am cheap. LOL). So, what are we doing this Eid? Well, we stayed at home on the first day. Then went to the beach yesterday. I was surprised that the beach was not “that” busy.

For the past two days, I have been going to the park to jog. I’ve missed this. Exercising really gives you “happy hormones”.

Today is the third day of the long holiday. I was able to clear out my closet, color my hair and write a proper blog update. Ahh!! This is the life! We’ll probably go to the mall later … I have been craving cheesecake. (Don’t worry, I’ll make sure I burn the bazillions of calories!)

What have you been up to?

I’m fueled by coffee and dream of working from home. When I need to chill, I turn to my trusty essential oils. They’re my secret weapon for staying sane in the madness.

I’ve given up trying to book anything during Eid. We had a good birthday celebration for our toddler, and now we ‘may’ visit Abu Dhabi but I don’t mind lazing around at home! I’ve always wanted to go to Al Aqah – that place is always so busy!

I actually enjoyed the quiet time at home. The trips to the park and the beach was enough. I did not feel tired from all the “activities”.

Now I dread going back to work!! LOLS.

You should visit Al Aqah. It is very nice! It’s my favorite place outside Dubai. 😀

I’ve been thinking a lot about the whole “YOLO I’ve been thinking a lot about the whole “YOLO” mindset. It sounds fun — and sometimes it IS harmless. But when we let it guide our decisions without pause… it can turn into a habit of acting first, thinking later.

This post is just something I made to process that idea. What if we shifted from the YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE to YOU ONLY DIE ONCE?

It’s not being a buzzkill. It’s about modeling self-control, delayed gratification, and faith in action—even when it’s not popular.

What do you think: YOLO or YODO?

Ps. I shared more of the story behind this thought over on @threads if you’re curious (same handle!)
