Some time ago, we decided to join my aunt on a special trip to San Juan Capistrano. She’s currently fighting cancer, and she often goes to St. Peregrine Chapel to pray. For us, it was more than a spiritual visit—it was a meaningful family day out.
We left early to avoid traffic and make the most of the day. Parking was easy near the church, which made starting our visit stress-free.
Visiting St. Peregrine Chapel
St. Peregrine is known as the patron saint of cancer patients, and many visitors come here seeking comfort and prayers. Even if you’re not there for spiritual reasons, the chapel’s peaceful setting makes it a perfect quiet stop on your day trip.
Tip: Bring a small donation if you plan to light a candle or leave a prayer request.
Exploring the Mission San Juan Capistrano
Next, we explored the historic Mission San Juan Capistrano, one of California’s most beautiful missions. Founded in 1776 and known as the “Jewel of the Missions.”

- Tickets & Hours: Admission is around $14 for adults, $10 for seniors/students, and free for kids under 5. The mission is open daily, but hours can change seasonally—check their website before visiting.
- What to See: Don’t miss the Great Stone Church ruins, the gardens, and the museum with artifacts from the mission’s history.
- Tips: Wear comfortable shoes for walking, and take time to explore the gardens—they’re surprisingly tranquil.
Brunch at Breezy
Brunch at Breezy was such a good call — it’s a Filipino & Pacific Islander–inspired brunch destination, nestled in downtown San Juan Capistrano (31761 Camino Capistrano Ste. 4). Breezy brings island-style, coastal vibes to its breakfast and lunch offerings, with a personal twist rooted in Filipino culture.

The menu includes:
- A mouthwatering adobo breakfast burrito stuffed with shredded pork adobo, eggs, garlic rice, cotija cheese, avocado, sour cream, salsa verde, and cilantro.
- Fun Ube pancakes with ube whip cream, toasted coconut flakes, coconut crema, and mixed berries.
- Comforting loco moco drenched in Breezy’s signature gravy sauce.
- Bright acai bowls named after the owner’s kids — Kaeli, Kainoa, and Kekoa.
The food is cozy, nostalgic, and also totally brunch-worthy for the modern family. It’s a laid-back, flavor-packed way to recharge before more exploring.

Tips for a Smooth Day Trip
- Leave early to avoid traffic, especially on weekends.
- Bring water and snacks if traveling with kids.
- Check online for any special events at the mission or local festivals.
- Parking is available near both the chapel and mission, but spaces fill up quickly.
