Blake’s Photo Op

November 12, 2012 by Sheila | A B & Me 3 Comments

We received our copy of Blake’s photos about a month ago. I just want to share with you the experience and the outcome.

For the photo shoot, we went to Pink Pepper Photography (PPP). They’re at the Dubai Mall (opposite Kinokuniya). I wanted the photo shoot to be exactly on Blake’s birthday but PPP was fully booked. So our appointment was a day early and at 7 pm. I got a call to reconfirm the booking and we were given pointers. Also, I told the photographer that I want a “cake smash” theme for the shoot.

On the day of the shoot, I told the nanny to make sure that Blake is well rested. We don’t want a cranky baby. Baby, cake, and clothes in hand, we went ahead with the shoot.

We took some group shots (mommy, daddy, and baby) and then it’s all about the baby. She had three costume changes. We decided to do the cake smash last for obvious reasons. Blake wore a pink tutu that I bought at Claire’s. It was getting late and Blake is getting tired. She would stand up and walk so I had to run after her while doing the shoot. (I didn’t know it would be THIS hard. I was sweating like a pig when we were done).

We paid for an hour’s worth of shoot but because it was getting late and Blake getting fussy, I  think we just had 45 minutes. But its ok. I think we got what we need. After a week, I got a call that our prints are ready for viewing. So we went back to PPP and picked the best shots, paid for the prints and waited for another call.

After two weeks (more or less), I received an sms saying that our prints are ready for collection. Here’s one of them:

Notice the semi-sad look on her face? She hated the cake smash theme! HAHA! Didn’t want to touch the cake at all. Babydaddy had to smear icing on her but she still didn’t want to smash. She was probably thinking… “why do you want me to play with food? You said no playing with food… waaahhh!!“

My thoughts on PPP.  They are very professional and fun to work with. However, I find them to be expensive for my taste. (I actually almost fell when I saw how much the prints would cost!)

Anyway, we had fun and we have a very nice set of photos as a keepsake of Blake’s first year.

No sis. 6 prints lang kasi may bayad per copy. Kaya sobrang pinili lang namin yung gusto namin. Mga 30 – 40 shots yung pinakita sa amin, we had to trim it to 6 for which I paid 1K AED additional.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the whole “YOLO I’ve been thinking a lot about the whole “YOLO” mindset. It sounds fun — and sometimes it IS harmless. But when we let it guide our decisions without pause… it can turn into a habit of acting first, thinking later.

This post is just something I made to process that idea. What if we shifted from the YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE to YOU ONLY DIE ONCE?

It’s not being a buzzkill. It’s about modeling self-control, delayed gratification, and faith in action—even when it’s not popular.

What do you think: YOLO or YODO?

Ps. I shared more of the story behind this thought over on @threads if you’re curious (same handle!)
