International Day of Happiness

Today, the world celebrates International Day of Happiness. The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution (65/309) which recognised happiness as a “fundamental human goal” back in 2011.

Happiness

International Day of Happiness

On 28th Jun/2012 The United Nations General Assembly adapted a resolution (66/281) which invites Member States to pursue the elaboration of additional measures that better capture the importance of the pursuit of happiness and well-being in  development with a view to guiding their public policies.

Why do we need to pursue happiness?

Wealth have been measured by the amount of money we have, however, it is not a reflection of ones happiness and well-being. We have all been busy working, doing things to increase our wealth, sometimes, we even do things that we hate just because it will probably generate more wealth. The day of happiness reminds us of what is important in life and brings us back to what should have been our goal in the first place.

A reason to be happy

The last few weeks have been a very stressful event in our life, family members getting sick and hospitalised one after the other, bills that are not covered by insurance filling-up is enough reason not to be happy. But the other day, our VP gave a very inspiring speech on his birthday. He said, we have a roof on our head, we have water to drink, we have clothes to wear, just think of the millions of people that do not even have those basic necessities. That made me think about my current situation. Even though family members are getting sick, they get treatment, we have access to healthcare. I also found an inspiration from one of my favourite TV shows Blue Bloods in one of the scene, one of the character said that nobody gets better by always being successful, we learn from our mistakes and failures and that makes us better. I didn’t have to look far for happiness, my family is my happiness. What about you?

My company just gave us another reason to be happy, one free ticket to any of the destinations that we fly to (subject to availability of course).

Donate blood – Save a life

Scientists estimates that 7% of human body weight is composed of blood. That percentage seem insignificant, but when we do lose blood it can lead to loss of life. You can save someone’s life – donate blood!

My son was born premature and he needed blood transfusion to replenish all the blood that is being collected from him daily due to various tests. I would like to thank the blood donors whoever they may be. Their blood is one of the reasons why my son is growing healthy today.

Donate Blood

Why donate blood?

A healthy human body replenish plasma within 24 hours and about six weeks for red blood cells. It means that we will get it back. Donating blood instead of selling it also have its benefits in some countries. Like in the Philippines, a donor can get blood for free when it is needed as opposed to paying for it.

Who can donate blood?

Blood donors are generally tested first to check for suitability. You may donate blood if you are in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and are 17 years or older (may vary depending on country regulation). Here are some basic factors considered when determining eligibility to donate blood.

  • Age
  • Blood Pressure
  • Body Piercing
  • Cold and Flu
  • Diabetes
  • Diet
  • Tattoos
  • Travel History
  • Weight

Health benefits of donating blood

I used to donate blood myself. Other than being able to help those who need it, I found out that donating blood can also be beneficial to donors:

  • Prevents haemochromatosis
  • Reduce risk of Cancer
  • Reduce risk of damage to liver and pancreas
  • Aids weight loss
  • Stimulates new blood cell production

Be a hero, donate blood. You may not know it but the blood you give may just end up saving someone else’s life. Contact your nearest Red Cross or you nearest health care agency to find out how you can donate.

CURRENTLY JULY 2017 …and other updates

CURRENTLY JULY

Mango tree in our backyard. It’s so tall that we can’t even harvest. 😛

Hello, hello, hello!!

I’m writing this post inside my parent’s room in my childhood home with the sound of the pouring rain outside. Ahhhh, memories.

I know its been a while. As usual, everything is a bit hectic lately. From meetup with friends and relatives to organizing the house, I am exhausted most of the time. I realized that I didn’t write June updates so I decided to do this post.  (Are there any readers left? Thank you for sticking around!!)

From now on, I’ll try to update first week of the month instead coz it makes more sense that way. 😛

Currently – May 2017

Currently MAY 2017

May has come and gone! So what was I up to? There’s been a lot of things happening all at the same time so blogging naturally took a back seat, again. But, we’re still active in social media — sort of. Here’s the rundown:

Currently

feeling overwhelmed. May has been a whirlwind in our household. There’s going to be a big change and adjustment for me in the next few months. And I’m not just talking about the little human growing in me. I finally did it. I fired my boss. I’ll be jobless in a few days! It makes me happy and at the same time it scares me big time. Aside from that, we had a health scare in the family (something I’d like to keep to ourselves for now).

starting to buy newborn stuff. Since I will be leaving soon, I decided that we should buy the stuff we need as early as now. As I grabbed the newborn diaper (size 1), I looked over at Alvin and said,

“I can’t believe we are back at one”, to which he replied, “Who knew we would be starting over at 40!”

It’s scary, this pregnant at 40 situation.

…planning our homecoming. Yep, we’ll be staying in the Philippines for a while. It’s school break for B anyway so might as well stay there so she can meet and bond with her cousins. I also plan to deliver little snowflake there so it’s going to be a long “vacation”. 🙂

…thinking of baby names. We still do not know exactly what little snowflake is. B wants a sister so they can be twins, she says. I told my doctor that I don’t want to know, I want it to be a surprise because … hey, I probably won’t be surprised this way again right? (altho, my doctor kinda hinted what the baby is… I wanted to karate chop her head. LOL)

As long as the baby is healthy, I’m ok with it. So, baby names … hmmm.

…enjoying my newest obsession. Essential oils!

It all started when I was staying with my sister in LA a few months ago. I told her I’m having a hard time sleeping because of my clogged nose … something I suffered while I was pregnant with B. I’m guessing it’s hormones, right? So, she turned on her diffuser with some oils. It helped me big time!

Fast forward to now …

I decided to move one level up and started using good quality, therapeutic grade essential oils. I figured, if I’m going to inhale this, might as well be good quality, right? So, yeah … I’ll probably be sharing my EO journey here as well.

What’s up with you lately? 🙂

Currently FEBRUARY 2017

Currently February 2017

I’ve been struggling with my writing again. I’m just forever exhausted for some reason. I  have a long backlog of posts that I need to finish and hopefully I can do that before our trip! Anyway, just to update ..

I AM CURRENTLY …

starting to be mindful of what I eat. I need to maintain (if not lose!) the current weight for health reasons. It’s been a struggle for a very long time. Back in late 2010, I took charge and started running. A few months after, I found out I was pregnant with B. I never got “that” active again after the pregnancy so here I am now. Don’t get me wrong, I did try but somehow I never got my groove and inspiration back so it was all stops and starts. :/

enjoying the cool weather still. A little bit too cold for the beach but we’ll get to that sweet spot where the temperature is just about right. Not too cold, not too hot (and humid!).

planning our US trip (still!). Tickets are booked, visas secured. We just need to find out where to go aside from Disneyland! LOL

celebrating my birthday month (March)! Woohoo. It’s also my blog anniversary so watch out for some giveaways (ehem looking for sponsors. Ha Ha!)

…feeling … exhausted! LOL. I’m thinking maybe a vacation is just what I need. But then again, with the time difference and the unforgiving jet lag, I’d probably be more exhausted after that trip.

So what’s up with you? Share in the comments section!
